Surely everyone wants you to lose weight and reclaim your health...Right?
Wrong!
There are people out there who have a vested interested in you failing and making the wrong choices.
Some of these groups are Big Food Companies.
Now the obvious ones are the junk food companies and fast-food restaurants.
But do you know what?
At least they don’t try and tell us their product is healthy...
At the end of the day, their job is to sell their product...
They do not dress it up as being good for you…
But…
They do tell you it will make you feel better...
Or that it’s super convenient (remember the lie that you don’t have time to cook).
Or Everything in moderation.
And the biggest lie in the world is that their products are part of a healthy, balanced diet.
Now the food companies that really, really grind our gears,
that make us lose our minds are...
The Breakfast Cereal Manufacturers and Health Food Companies.
This is because they outwardly lie and tell you their food is good for you when it’s not!
Their products are ultra-processed and laden with food additives and preservatives
“Breakfast is the most important meal of the day” is a phrase embraced by John Harvey Kellogg- no prizes for guessing which company he founded.
We have been made to feel guilty for not eating breakfast and that somehow cereal is what we need to be eating for health-(fibre the greatest marketing tool of all time).
We have a whole blog dedicated to dispelling the myth that eating breakfast is crucial for good health, so more on that later…
Health Food Humph!
Did you know there is no criteria or regulations on labelling food as being healthy?
You can slap that label on anything!
You can add a bunch of vitamins and minerals and bang, suddenly your dubious product is labelled a health food.
In Australia, the disastrous Health Food star rating system leads to more and more confusion.
“The Australian Health Star Rating (HSR) is a nutrient-based front-of-pack (FOP) labelling system that assesses the ‘healthiness’ of foods on a scale of 0.5 to 5 stars based on their content of ‘risk’ and ‘positive’ nutrients.”
The problem is that it leads people to believe that ultra-processed food is healthy.
There is great research paper here published in 2018
https://ijbnpa.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12966-018-0760-7
The bottom line is as quoted in the conclusion is that “ but it [The Health Star Rasting] can’t disguise the fact that the foods remain UP [Ultra Processed] foods and their consumption needs to be discouraged in the first place.
Let us ask you?
Does this list of ingredients below sound healthy?
Ingredients: Protein blend 33% (soy protein isolate, hydrolysed collagen, whey protein concentrate, calcium caseinate), no added sugar dark chocolate (18%) [cocoa mass & cocoa butter (70% cocoa solids), dietary fibre (polydextrose), erythritol, emulsifier (soy lecithin), natural flavour, natural sweetener (stevia)], humectant (glycerol), sorbitol, dietary fibre (polydextrose), no sugar added mint chips (3.5%), sunflower oil, citrus fibre, emulsifier (soy lecithin), natural flavour, natural sweetener (stevia), salt, antioxidant (mixed tocopherols).
No, we thought not...
But this company, (which we will not identify) has a very “healthy-sounding” business name has listed their mission as this
… “Sparked by an unpalatable gap in the market for healthier products that taste great, our sights were set on reinventing the future of snacking!”
Healthier product, we don’t think so!
Ultra-processed snacks dressed up as a health food is plain and simply wicked.
We have another blog post dedicated to dispelling the Great Milo Con but we’ll save that for another day. Only so much outrage we can muster in one post, right ?;-)
We are not here to judge people’s food choice. Heck if you want to eat a doughnut, eat one. At least doughnuts aren’t tricking you into believing that you are making a healthy choice.
What we object to is this trickery…
These companies pretend...
To have your best interests at heart…
They are here to help you look after yourself…
They will help you look after your children’s health.
All we can say is Shame on you Food Companies
Dollars above Health
Profit at any cost.
Meanwhile, families are getting sicker and sicker.
In good health,
